Why these years matter

Watch curiosity take root

Between 2 and 5, a child's mind grows faster than it ever will again. Tap each seed to see what takes root here — and what your child carries for life.

Tap a seed to watch it grow 🌱

Every bloom here grows from something we do — on purpose — every single day.

A day in your child's shoes

Picture your child's typical day

Not a lesson plan. A real day, lived fully — where every moment is quietly teaching something that lasts far longer than preschool.

Two friends beaming together in little green chairs
📖
  1. 8:40 AMScientific curiosity

Running to check on the seedlings

They planted it last week. Today they want to know if it grew. That tiny seedling is theirs — and caring for something real teaches patience, attention, and wonder that no lesson ever could.

  2. 10:00 AMCreative confidence

Painting something that only exists in their mind

No template. No 'right answer.' Just a brush, some paint, and the freedom to make it exactly what they see inside. Self-trust grows here — one brushstroke at a time.

  3. 12:00 PMEmpathy & language

Passing the bread to a friend

Lunch at a shared table, with real conversation. Learning to wait, to share, to say please and actually mean it. Some of the most important growth happens between bites.

  4. 3:20 PMResilience & grit

The block tower fell. They built it again.

Nobody told them to keep going — they just did. Resilience isn't taught in a lesson; it's lived in moments exactly like this, with someone nearby who trusts them to figure it out.

  5. 4:00 PMConfidence & identity

    "Mama, I did something today"

They can't always explain it. But they walk out different from who they walked in. A little more themselves. A little more sure. That feeling — that's what these years are for.

Our Philosophy

The environment is the third teacher

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we believe a child who feels safe and valued will follow their curiosity — and that is exactly how a young brain learns best. Every day of exploration, real materials, and gentle guidance builds the focus, language, and confidence your child will carry far beyond these walls.

Children peering through magnifiers at caterpillar cups
🧱

Child-led & emergent

Curriculum grows from each child's interests — not a rigid schedule. Hands-on projects, real questions, real discovery.

Small & nurturing

A 1:6 teacher-to-child ratio and mixed-age groups of 2–5 mean every child is truly seen, known, and cared for.

Rooted in nature

Daily outdoor exploration and gardening. Children plant, dig, observe, and care for a garden that is genuinely their own.

Gentle guidance

Positive guidance over punishment — we teach with words and modeling, helping children build empathy and self-regulation.

A Day Here

A gentle, predictable rhythm

Days flow between nourishment, exploration, the garden, and rest — a balance that helps children feel secure and free to follow their curiosity.

Families welcomed

Meet the founder

Meet Jessie 🌿

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My passion for working with children began at a very young age. After experiencing a difficult year in second grade, I made a promise to myself that one day I would become the kind of teacher every child deserves — someone who makes children feel safe, loved, understood, and excited to learn. As I grew older, I was fortunate to be surrounded by incredible educators whose kindness, compassion, and dedication reminded me just how life-changing a great teacher can be. They inspired me to become that person for others.

My journey in education began during my junior year of high school when I returned to my former elementary school as an instructional aide. Watching children grow in confidence, discover new abilities, and light up with excitement each day confirmed that I had found my life's calling.

Today, I bring more than 19 years of experience working with children from infancy through the teenage years in a variety of educational and childcare settings. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to one simple belief: every child deserves to be known, celebrated, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.

Families often describe me as patient, nurturing, energetic, and deeply dedicated to the children in my care. I strive to create a warm, welcoming environment where every child feels safe enough to explore, confident enough to try new things, and loved exactly as they are. I believe children learn best through meaningful relationships, hands-on experiences, play, and plenty of encouragement. Watching their confidence grow and celebrating each milestone — big or small — is one of the greatest joys of my work.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of La Verne and hold a Child Development Teaching Permit through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. I am passionate about continuing to grow as an educator so I can provide the highest quality care and learning experiences for every child and family I serve.

Perhaps my greatest inspiration, however, has been becoming a mother. Nine years ago, when my son was a toddler, he inspired me to pursue my lifelong dream of opening my in-home preschool. I wanted to create more than just a place for children to learn — I wanted to create a second home where every child feels safe, valued, supported, and excited to come each day. As I celebrate 9 wonderful years of serving children and families, I am incredibly grateful for the trust so many parents have placed in me and honored to have been a part of so many children's earliest memories and milestones.

When your child joins my program, they become part of a community built on trust, kindness, curiosity, and connection. I believe the preschool years should be filled with wonder, laughter, and opportunities to grow. It is an incredible privilege to partner with families during this special season of life, helping children build the confidence, independence, and love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for considering me to be part of your family's story. I look forward to welcoming you and your little one into our preschool family.

Where curiosity leads

Real children. Real transformations.

Every child arrives with their own pace and way. Here's what families tell us they see, usually within the first few months.

Shy at drop-offConfident storyteller

She used to cling to me every morning. By month two she was walking in and greeting the other kids by name. We were shocked.

Won't touch dirtHarvests her own vegetables

Our son refused to go near the garden. Now he insists on watering his pepper plant before school. He's so proud of it.

Trouble sharingLeads the group project

The teacher showed me a video of him organizing the other kids to build a block city together. That's not the kid we dropped off.

Separation anxietyAsks to go to school

She used to cry the whole way there. Now she asks on the weekends why it's closed. That says everything about what Jessie has built.

Yelp
Growing Garden is the best school. If you're looking for an environment where your children will come home happy and fulfilled each day, look no further than GG. Jessie and Mia Mia put so much care and love into every decision they make regarding the school and the kids. My daughter blossomed in their care and even learned the alphabet and letter recognition while she was there. This school is a true gem — it feels like a real family and we miss it so much.

Yelp
Since she started attending Growing Garden, our little girl has really blossomed, and we owe so much of that to the loving encouragement and incredible environment created by Jessie and Mia Mia. Every week I've marveled at the new things my daughter comes home having learned — words in Spanish, vowels, songs, not to mention trying new foods. But most importantly she's so happy, confident, and encouraged to be curious. They have an incredibly nurturing and respectful way to meet all the kids where they're at, and everyone benefits.

Yelp
Growing Garden was my daughter's first school experience, and it's amazing. She had never left parents before, so it was hard at the beginning — but every afternoon she was so happy that she refused to go home. The head teacher, Jessie, had magic ways to calm down and cheer up these little guys. Every morning Jessie would prepare a different game for the kids. The environment was great: the interior warm and delicate but not childish, and the garden so beautiful with room to play, plant, or read books.

Yelp
Growing Garden is my son's first school. He was 3 and had never been to daycare before — family was his only exposure — and Growing Garden created an extension of our family's atmosphere for him. With a small teacher-to-student ratio and informal chats at pick-up, he became more persistent in art making, more focused in writing, able to tell stories confidently, and more considerate in his words and actions. I would highly recommend Growing Garden to any parents looking for a loving environment for their growing children.

Yelp
Such an amazing, welcoming place. Our son learns so much constantly. It's a great environment and he loves the days he gets to go, and comes home happy and tired from being so active all day. It's a wonderful place and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Yelp
This is an amazing school! Jessie, the Director/Teacher, created a warm, caring yet stimulating environment where our son has really developed in just a few months. His vocabulary and engagement have improved tremendously, and he has learned about boundaries and sharing. We especially appreciate the variety of nutritious meals the kids help make — sometimes using ingredients from their very own garden! Jessie is enthusiastic and a great communicator. We are lucky to have found Growing Garden.

Yelp
Our two-year-old son absolutely loves it here! There is so much tactile stimulation and different indoor and outdoor activities that keep him engaged. I love that they cook with the kids and prepare nutritious meals on site (which he readily eats!). His vocabulary improved within weeks of starting, and we've really seen him blossom there. Jessie is very nurturing and clearly talented with children. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Our son started here at 2.5 years after being born right at the start of Covid and never having been cared for outside the house. It was a hard transition for us all, but Jessie and Mia Mia helped him through the tough drop-offs. They go above and beyond nurturing these kids' minds and bodies — they eat well-balanced, real food and even help with the meal prep. He's learned a lot, sings us songs in Spanish, and it's been an amazing year. I wish he could stay here forever, and we'll be sending his little sister as soon as we can!

Yelp
This place is truly a dream come true for our son. We could not find one school with openings that felt right — then we found Miss Jessie and Miss Mia Mia at this wonderful place called Growing Garden. We will forever be grateful. It went by too fast, and the graduation ceremony was amazing. This is a small town/village feel that is so incredibly warm and beautiful. As a Dad, I will forever treasure the drop-off and pickup memories. We love Growing Garden!

Yelp
I'm writing this about a year into our son's first year of Kindergarten. Growing Garden truly prepared him for Kindergarten (and life!) in ways I can't underestimate. It starts with Jessie's true dedication to the kids and the one-on-one attention she provides for their unique needs. We're so appreciative of how GG involves the kids in preparing well-rounded, nutritional meals. And the love — we felt GG and the relationships with other parents and kids made us feel like part of a family, which was truly helpful during the hard times of Covid.

Yelp
We could not have dreamed up a better school for our daughter. She just graduated from GG and is going into Kindergarten so well adjusted, kind, and well educated. I owe so much to Jessie and Mia Mia for this. They have truly become an extension of our family — a duo we will hold in our hearts forever.

Couldn't be happier. We feel so blessed to have found this community for our son and feel so supported by Jessie and the staff. Dropping him off feels like leaving him with extended family. Yelp
Finding the right childcare was one of the hardest, most important things I've had to do as a full-time career mom, and placing my child in Jessie's care was the smartest choice I could have made. Once I visited Growing Garden, I could immediately see my son would have the benefit of a small ratio, a home environment he'd feel safe in, and a rigorous academic setting that also centered on exploration and creative expression. It is a loving home, with the highest quality care, plus the added benefit of delicious, wholesome meals the kids help prepare. I couldn't offer higher praise!

Yelp
I have the best boy, and I believe I owe a lot of that to Jessie. She's played such a large role in the sweet, smart boy my son has become. We moved across the country, and it was very hard to leave. My son was doing so well learning to read, learning Spanish, learning to count — and he truly cared about and loved his friends there, so much of which was a reflection of how Jessie treats her students. If I could give 6 stars, I would!

Yelp
From the first day to the last, it's clear that Jessie cares so deeply about the kids and what she does. Her approach to preschool learning and childcare is full of love, encouragement, and respect that has really made our child blossom — more confident, independent, and curious. Yelp
We would recommend Growing Garden to everyone. The children come out of this place as wonderful little people. The teachers focus on the perfect balance of social growth and age-appropriate academics — everything learned through play, song, and games, with lots of time outside. The small school (about 12 kids) means individualized care, and the teachers truly meet every kid where they're at. They've been models of gentle parenting for our family. They provide breakfast, lunch, and snack, and the kids help prepare them. The owners are SO kind and loving — we hope we're in touch with them forever.

Yelp
We absolutely love Growing Garden! Our daughter started just after turning 2, and as she approaches 4 we could not be more grateful for the incredible experience Jessie and the teaching staff have provided. Jessie has created such a warm, nurturing, and inspiring environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn every day. We especially appreciate the thoughtful Reggio Emilia–inspired approach, which encourages creativity, curiosity, independence, and hands-on learning. She has blossomed socially, emotionally, and academically, and we feel confident she's being set up for success in kindergarten. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Growing Garden community.

Yelp
I wish I could leave far more than five stars. My parents live far away, and each morning during breakfast we FaceTime with them and our kid, and she tells them what she's doing at school — baking, learning about seasons, taking special breaths, and singing songs in Spanish! Our daughter is so excited to be dropped off in the morning, often skipping our hug so she can race through the doors of Growing Garden.

Yelp
I feel beyond lucky to have found Growing Garden and that my daughter gets to spend her days with Jessie and Mia Mia. As a parent, it's the best feeling knowing that when you're not with your child, they're in the hands of someone who truly cares for them and is enriching their life. My daughter is seen and supported for who she is while learning to be a kind and good human. The intimate environment lets kids try things for themselves and grow in ways that have blown me away — she helps make breakfast, waters the plants, and takes such pride in doing things herself. I think this is the best school and I wish I could give them 10 stars!

Yelp
From the first visit on, I knew this was a magical place. This was the first preschool my son attended, and he absolutely loves it — no wonder he asks every morning to go! The garden, the cooking, the art projects — everything is so nicely thought out, it impresses me each time. Besides being a great place for kids to play, Jessie makes them feel welcome and loved while nurturing their natural curiosity. It was easy to choose Growing Garden; it will be much harder to say goodbye.
